Cavalier Women Visit MEC Leading Pioneers Saturday

Storylines – vs Glenville State College

Kim Stephens' Pioneers have mauled Mountain East Conference opponents in the early going. Glenville State's average margin of victory in league games is 38 points and includes a 133-61 win at Shepherd University on Dec. 2. The team is led by 5-foot-6 senior guard Paris McLeod who is averaging 20.8 points per game. The Bellville, Mich. native has scored at least 20 points in five of her teams' eight games while averaging just over 20 minutes played per contest. An up-tempo, full-court press has allowed the Pioneers to suffocate their competition. Stephens' club is forcing nearly 25 turnovers per game while making over 14 3-pointers a contest. To date, no MEC school has played Glenville State within 20 points. The Pioneers closest game in the league opener when West Liberty suffered a 96-75 defeat at the hands of Glenville State. UVa-Wise did win the last meeting between the two schools as the Cavaliers posted an 87-75 win at the Prior Center. In the game, Glenville State was limited to 13-of-51 shooting from beyond the arc while UVa-Wise turned the ball over just 18 times in the game. Alle Moore was big for the Cavs as the then sophomore netted 15 points off the bench to aid her team to victory.

About UVa-Wise

UVa-Wise cleaned the class Wednesday as the team stopped a four-game losing streak with a 54-47 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in the Prior Center. The Cavaliers finished +13 in the rebounding battle as sophomore forward Cynita Webb turned in her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Webb's performance on the glass was just one of many as Hanna Oliver (8), Adalmaryz - Rivera Gomez (6), Ada Stanley (7) and Ashley Cullen (9) all established new career-high marks in rebounding in the team's win. Stanley also had her best offensive game of her young career. The freshman made 5-of-8 field goal attempts en route to 10 points and the first double-digit scoring performance of her collegiate career. Oliver led all players with three made 3-pointers in the win as the Woodbridge, Va. product netted a game-high 12 points. One area to watch going into Saturday's game is depth; Head Coach Elise Clyburn seemed to shorten her bench in Wednesday's win as seven players played at least 19 minutes. By contrast, Glenville State has 15 players averaging double digit minutes on the season.
