UVa-Wise Hosts Milligan College on Saturday


Storylines – vs. Milligan College

Milligan College will visit UVa-Wise with a 4-9 overall record, 3-4 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Saturday night's game will be the fourth consecutive exhibition matchup for the Buffaloes who are winless in exhibition games thus far. The Buffs opened the season on a four game losing streak, getting their first win in conference play against Truett-McConnell University in overtime, 85-84. Prior to exhibition matchups, Milligan earned an 81-79  conference win over Point University. Sophomore guard Daxton Bostian led the Buffaloes in scoring with 17 points and six assists while junior forward Aaron Levarity had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds against the Skyhawks. The Buffs shot 28-for-61 (45.9 percent) from the field with 36 points inside the paint and grabbed 40 boards in the win. This season, Bill Robinson's team is averaging 82.5 points per game while opponents are putting up 89.1 points per contest. The Buffaloes have shot 377-for-845 (44.6 percent) from the field and 107-for-293 (36.5 percent) from beyond the arc. From the foul line, Milligan has made 212-of-328 (64.6 percent) attempted free throws. The Buffs are  averaging 38.9 rebounds per contest, led by Levarity who is averaging 9.8 rebounds per game. Levarity also leads in scoring with 189 points this season, averaging 14.5 per game on 66-for-114 (57.9 percent) shooting. Bostian follows Levarity with 12.2 points per game while averaging 2.8 assists per contest. Milligan will return to conference action in 2018 taking the court against Bryan College on Jan. 2 and Montreat College on Jan. 6 inside the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Falling in back-to-back home conference games, the Cavalier men bounced back in their conference road matchup against Glenville State three weeks ago, defeating the Pioneers 82-65. The Cavaliers improved to 4-2 in Mountain East Conference play with the win and 5-6 overall. Redshirt senior forward Taiwo Badmus went 10-for-18 from the field against Glenville, collecting 24 points and eight boards in the win. Sophomore Michal Seals finished with a double-double with 10 assists and 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting, going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Yesid Mosquera-Perea added 13 points and a season-high nine rebounds while fellow sophomore Tajh Eason had 10 points in the win. The Cavaliers are averaging 77.45 points per game and shooting 42 percent from the field, led by Badmus who is averaging 20.9 points per game this season. The Cavs will resume conference play in 2018 with back-to-back matchups on the road against Fairmont State on Jan. 4 and Shepherd University on Jan. 6
