Box Score

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - - Glenville State corralled 26 offensive rebounds and forced 26 UVa-Wise turnovers in posting a 92-76 Mountain East Conference victory at the Waco Center Thursday. Four Lady Pioneers scored in double figures, including 16 points each from Julie Bishop and Courtney Davis.

Glenville State (14-7, 10-5) put the game away in the opening quarter as the team made five of its 15 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes. By the period's conclusion, Charles Marshall's squad had built a 29-12 advantage.

As it has done many times this season, UVa-Wise (9-10, 5-10) spent the remainder of the contest battling back.

After falling behind by 25 points when Skyy Lewis connected on a layup, the Cavaliers closed the half on a 19-9 run to go to intermission trailing 54-39.

Taylor Sandidge and Kayla Carey provided most of the first half offense for Kristin Kunzman's club. Sandidge scored 10 points while Carey registered eight points off the bench.

Consecutive free throws by Makenzie Cluesman at the 7:42 mark of the third quarter would get the Cavs within 12 points at 55-43.

It would be as close as her team would get; Glenville State finished the period by scoring 20 of the next 28 points to take a commanding 75-51 lead to the fourth period.

The Lady Pioneers would push the lead to as many as 29 in the final 10-minute session before the Cavs made one final stand.

Trailing 82-53 with 7:38 remaining, UVa-Wise would go on a 19-3 run to make the score 85-72 with 3:22 to play.

Sandidge would score six points during the scoring spurt as she finished the game with 16 points to join Bishop and Davis for game-high scoring honors.

Davis would complete a 3-point play for Glenville State to push the lead back to 16 with less than 90 seconds to play.

The two schools would play even over the remainder of the contest as the Lady Pioneers claimed their third consecutive league victory.

Cluesman added 13 points for the Cavs while Carey finished with 11 and Blair Harding chipped in 10.

Glenville State finished with more offensive rebounds (26) than UVa-Wise did defensive rebounds (25). Tayana Stewart  13 and Tyra Sinclair 10 also posted double figures for the Lady Pioneers. Davis collected a game-high 13 rebounds to record a double-double.

The game was the start of a four-game road trip for the Cavs. Next up is a trip to West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday; tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Buckhannon.
