Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. - - Taylor Sandidge tied a season-high with 27 points as UVa-Wise completed a regular season sweep of Concord with a 92-71 win over the Mountain Lions at the Carter Center Saturday.
Sandidge and teammate Blair Harding combined to score 16 first quarter points as UVa-Wise (12-14, 8-14 MEC) and Concord (5-23, 3-19 MEC) battled to a 23-23 tie after the opening period.
The opening 10-minute session featured eight lead changes as Danielle Catron netted eight of her team-high 16 points for the Mountain Lions in the quarter.
Concord would open the second period on fire. Consecutive free throws by Lexis Lowery started a 10-2 run for the hosts. Lowery and Olivia Morgan scored five points each for the Mountain Lions during the spurt.
Alle Moore and Sanddige would get UVa-Wise back in the game. The duo would combine to score 10 of the Cavaliers' final 14 points in the half as Kristin Kunzman's team finished the stanza on a 14-5 scoring run of their own to take a 39-38 lead to intermission.
Catron gave Concord the lead back at 40-39 just seconds into the second half before Kayla Carey scored inside at the 8:36 mark to put UVa-Wise back in front.
Carey's bucket would put the Cavs in front for good. UVa-Wise would outscore Concord 53-33 in the final 20 minutes to cruise to the 92-71 win.
Harding and Moore each chipped in 15 points for the Cavs while Makenzie Cluesman (9) and Allison Ball (8) added a combined 17 points off the bench in the win.
Cluesman and Sandidge canned three 3-pointers each as part of 10 made triples for the visitors. Kunzman's club made 51.7 percent of their field goal attempts and 22 of 23 free throws while also winning the battle of the boards 36-30.
Morgan, Lowery and Kylie Molisee each posted 12 points for Concord who suffered its third consecutive loss in the series.
Saturday's game was the last regular season contest of the year for both schools. Both UVa-Wise and Concord will begin MEC Tournament play Tuesday on the road.
