WISE, Va. – Thursday afternoon's men's and women's tennis match at Lincoln Memorial University has been cancelled due to forecasted winter weather in the form of snow, the contest will not be made up at a later date.
With a winter weather advisory in place tomorrow for the entire region, the Cavaliers will once again have to wait to begin their spring season. The UVa-Wise men's team was originally supposed to start its spring championship season this past Saturday at Belmont Abbey College but the match was called off in the middle of doubles play because of rain.
The men's team will now begin their spring championship season Sunday when they travel to Bluefield College for a 1 p.m. match. The UVa-Wise women's team now has to wait until Sunday, March 13, to start its spring non-conference slate with a trip to Montreat College for a 12 p.m. first serve.
The Cavalier men were picked to finish fifth in the Mountain East Conference according to the preseason poll voted upon by the league's head coaches. MEC play will start March 5 for the men's team when West Virginia Wesleyan visits the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex for a 12 p.m. match.
