Storylines – Urbana GameSophomore Danie Shafer has been a big reason why Coach Haley Ducey's Urbana Blue Knights are on the cusp of a winning season after a 1-28 campaign last season. The Huber Heights, Ohio product ranks fifth in the Mountain East Conference in scoring at 17.6 points per game. Earlier this season, the guard registered 31 points and five assists in an 84-78 home win over UVa-Wise. The Blue Knights are on a four-game winning streak that has featured a quartet of single-digit victories. Kennedy Boggs joined Shafer and Haley as players with 20 or more points as she finished 9-20 from the field en route to 21 points. The high-scoring affair was nothing new for the Blue Knights who have scored 80 or more points 13 times this season. Entering Saturday, Urbana ranks third in the MEC in scoring at 79.2 points per game. A large part of the team's offense comes at the free throw line; the Blue Knights lead the league in free throw percetage at 78.4 percent and make an average of 16.1 foul shots per game.
About UVa-WiseThursday's loss to Notre Dame College slipped UVa-Wise a game behind Charleston for eighth place in the MEC standings putting the Cavaliers in a near must-win situation if the team is to host an opening round league tournament game. The loss was due to in large part to a 29.8 percent shooting performance and was just the fourth setback of the year inside the Prior Center for
Kristin Kunzman's team. While most Cavs struggled shooting against the Falcons, senior
Blair Harding may have found her stroke. The Baltimore native scored a team-high 19 points and connected on five 3-pointers. The 19 points were the most for Harding since she posted 21 points against Concord on Jan. 21st. In the first meeting against Urbana,
Kayla Carey kept UVa-Wise in the contest with a season-high 24 points. The junior was joined in double-figure scoring by
Allison Ball (18) and
Taylor Sandidge (16). This will be Urbana's third trip to the Prior Center, the schools have split the first two meetings. UVa-Wise swept the season-series last season, including a 75-58 win in Wise last season. Following Saturday's contest, the Cavs will host West Virginia State for "Senior Day 2016" on Thursday in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
