Cavs Wrap up 2016 With Win Over Bobcats

WISE - - UVa-Wise limited Lees-McRae College to 29.4 percent shooting and never trailed in a 68-46 women's basketball victory at the Prior Center Saturday. The Cavaliers improved to 4-0 at home in the win while Makenzie Cluesman (16), Alle Moore (14) and Kayla Carey (10) all scored in double figures in the victory.

UVa-Wise (8-4) jumped out to an 18-6 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back. Cluesman scored seven of her game-high 16 points in the first period as the Cavs connected on seven of their first 11 field goal attempts.

Lees-McRae (1-9) would tie the game at 23-23 on consecutive free throws by Martha Maslin with 2:39 to play in the opening half. Kristin Kunzman's team would respond with a 9-0 run to close the half as Cluesman (3) and Carey (4) combined for seven of the nine points during the spurt.

UVa-Wise's onslaught continued in the third period as the Cavs forced six turnovers and converted the Bobcat miscues into seven points.

The lead would balloon to as high as 24 points late in the fourth quarter before the final margin of 68-46.

The Cavs did not miss a free throw in the win (12-12) while out-rebounding the Bobcats 45-29. As part of the 45-rebound performance, UVa-Wise collected 17 offensive rebounds and turned the second chance opportunities into 10 points.

Lees-McRae was led by Breana Hardnett's 15 points and Markia Stacey's 14 points.

The game wraps up the out of conference portion of the season for UVa-Wise. Next up for the Cavs is a home contest with Fairmont State Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
