Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - - UVa-Wise outscored Charleston 17-12 in the third period and held off a late Golden Eagles rally to claim an 83-74 Mountain East Conference women's basketball victory at Charleston Catholic High School Saturday. It was the third consecutive win for the Cavaliers who are now 3-1 on the young season.
UVa-Wise (3-1, 1-0 MEC) received 18 points each from Kayla Carey and Taylor Sandidge along with a 17-point, five-rebound, five-assist showing from Makenzie Cluesman to claim the victory.
Charleston's (1-3, 0-1 MEC) Jordyn Peck led all players with 24 points on 10-18 shooting. Abby Watson added 19 points while Oliva Nicholas chipped in 12 points in a losing effort.
Kristin Kunzman saw all 10 Cavs she play score. Freshman Cynita Webb posted a season-high nine points while Allison Ball added seven off the bench
Overall, UVa-Wise won the battle of the boards 35-24, it was the fourth consecutive game the Cavs won the rebounding battle. As a team, Kunzman's crew shot 18-21 from the charity stripe while making 29 of 58 field goal attempts.
UVa-Wise will look for its fourth win in a row Monday when West Virginia State visits the Prior Center in a 5:30 p.m. tip.
