WISE - - UVa-Wise scored 57 first half points and shot 72.7 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes as Kristin Kunzman's team rolled to a 102-63 Mountain East Conference victory over Shepherd University at the Prior Center Thursday. The 102 points are the most for the Cavaliers since becoming an NCAA Division II member.

UVa-Wise (8-9, 4-9 MEC) closed the first quarter on a 22-8 run as Makenzie Cluesman played the best 10 minutes of her collegiate career. The Jonesville native scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists. Alle Moore was a perfect 4-4 from the field as the Cavs shot 60 percent in a period that saw them double up the opposition 28-14.

Shepherd (5-14, 4-9 MEC) never regained their footing. The Rams fell behind by as many as 28 points in the opening half as the Cavs missed just one field goal in the second period (12-13). The depth of UVa-Wise was also evident in the first 20 minutes. The hosts outscored Shepherd 28-0 in bench points while also scoring more points in the paint (38) than the total points (33) scored by Shepherd.

Leading 57-33, UVa-Wise never let off the accelerator, pushing the margin to as much as 38 in the closing seconds of the third quarter. Moore picked up 11 of her career-high 25 points in the period. The Marietta, Ohio native added eight boards and a block to her 10-12 shooting performance.

UVa-Wise cruised in the fourth period, leading by as many as 44 points. Cluesman finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Kayla Carey came off the bench and scored 18 points in 17 minutes of play. The junior was a perfect 6-6 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line.

Five Cavs registered double figure scoring in the win, Blair Harding sank four 3-pointers en route to 14 points, Taylor Sandidge finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists and Allison Ball notched 12 points while making her fourth consecutive start.

Cara Mason led Shepherd with 18 points. The Rams' Morgan Arden entered the game leading the MEC in scoring at over 19 points per game but was limited to 12 points in 31 minutes of play.

The Cavs finished the game shooting a season-high 55.7 percent from the field. The team made its first 15 free throws and finished the game 17-20 from the charity stripe.  UVa-Wise won the battle of the boards 50-28 and scored 58 points in the paint.

The win gains UVa-Wise a season-series split with Shepherd. Next up is a date with Fairmont State on Saturday at 2 p.m.  The 2006 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Champions will be honored in a ceremony and Sarah Helton, the program's all-time leading scorer will be inducted into the UVa-Wise Athletics Hall of Fame.
