Men’s Basketball Travels to University of Charleston Tuesday

WISE, Va. – UVa-Wise men's basketball hits the road for just one game Tuesday night, traveling to take on the University of Charleston for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

Storylines – vs. University of Charleston
The game, originally scheduled to be played Saturday, Jan. 23, at 4 p.m., was moved to Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict at the Charleston Civic Center. Tuesday's contest will take place at Charleston Catholic H.S. and inside the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex located in downtown Charleston, West Virginia. Charleston has not been able to play any of its home games on campus this season because of a complete renovation to the Golden Eagles' arena.

The Cavaliers and Golden Eagles met back on Nov. 21 in UVa-Wise's home opener. Charleston earned a 79-64 victory over the Cavs behind strong rebounding and 40 points in the paint. UVa-Wise was out-rebounded 55 to 31 in the game as the Golden Eagles claimed 16 offensive boards for 22 second-chance points. The Golden Eagles used a balanced scoring attack but were led by graduate student forward Aleksander Kesic with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Cavs were led by sophomore guard Philip Owens II with 19 points and five assists, while senior forward Matt Day was held to his second-lowest scoring game of the season with eight points as he grabbed nine rebounds.

Currently, Charleston is tied for fourth place in the Mountain East Conference and is on a four-game win streak that includes victories over West Virginia State (70-68), Glenville State (88-66), West Virginia Wesleyan (53-45) and Shepherd University (76-51). The Golden Eagles last loss was on Jan. 10 at home against now third-ranked Fairmont State (66-65).

Holding a 2-4 home record on the season, Charleston is led by Kesic who is averaging 12.8 points per game. Senior guard Tino DiTrapano (12.4 ppg) leads the team in assists with 3.1 per game, while junior forward Justin Coleman (9.6 ppg) leads the Golden Eagles in rebounding at 7.9 per contest and senior forward Jevonte Hughes (10.5 ppg) is third in scoring.

About UVa-Wise
UVa-Wise is looking to snap a four-game skid Tuesday night after a 100-85 loss to Concord University in the David J. Prior Convocation Center this past Thursday night. Owens II tied his season high in points (20) and dished out a career-high 11 assists in the defeat, while Day recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cavs own a 1-5 record in true road games this season with their lone win coming at Urbana University (85-82) on Jan. 10. The last time the Cavs played the Golden Eagles in Charleston, UVa-Wise came away with a 77-75 win last season on Feb. 14, 2015. In that game the Cavs were down by three with a little less than a minute to play, but a three-pointer and then seven free-throws down the stretch gave the UVa-Wise the victory.

Following tomorrow night's contest the Cavs will return to Wise for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with Shepherd Thursday night.
