WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise men's tennis team will take on Montreat College Thursday afternoon at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex for the Cavaliers (0-2) third non-conference match of the fall season. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
The Cavs will face the Montreat Cavaliers of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Appalachian Athletic Conference for the third time in the past decade, having lost last season's contest 5-1 on the road. UVa-Wise defeated the Cavaliers of Montreat 6-3 at home back in 2006 before the Montreat shut down its men's tennis program, which was resurrected last year.
Continuing their four-match homestand to begin the 2015 fall non-conference schedule the Cavs are seeking their first win of the season. UVa-Wise had two tough matches to begin the fall campaign, falling 9-0 to both Tusculum College and Milligan College. Tusculum finished last year ranked 48th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Thursday's contest will be Montreat's first and only dual match of the fall season, competing in three individual tournaments this fall.
Following tomorrow's match the Cavs will finish out their homestand by welcoming NCAA Division III opponent Maryville College Sunday for a 2 p.m. first serve in Wise. The Cavs will then travel to Lees-McRae on Oct. 3 for their first road match of the fall non-conference season.
