SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – A career-high 24 points from senior Tyler Maggard was not enough for UVa-Wise in a 97-92 loss to Shepherd University on Monday in the Butcher Center.

The Cavaliers (2-24, 1-20 MEC) had four players finish in double figures. Maggard went 8-11 from beyond the arc to land his game-high 24 points.  Brian Sydnor finished with 23 points, a game-high 15 rebounds, two assists and three steals. Matt Day added 21 points and five rebounds, while Charles George finished with 10 points and seven assists.

UVa-Wise shot 44.3 percent from the floor, 41 percent from behind the arc and scored 19 points off turnovers.

The Rams (14-13, 9-12 MEC) had four players finish in double figures. Austin Cunningham finished with a team-high 22 points, six rebounds and four assists. Steffen Davis added 21 points, while Gavin McTavish finished with 16 points and Ryan McTavish added 12 points.

The Cavaliers will return home Saturday for the final game of the season against Concord University.
