Storylines – Shepherd University GameShepherd enters coming off its first Mountain East Conference loss of the season, a 90-87 setback at West Liberty on Thursday. The loss dropped the Rams into a tie for first place in the MEC with the Hilltoppers. With nine wins already, Shepherd has already surpassed its win total from a year ago by five. The turnaround has come under first-year coach Jenna Eckleberry who has her team sharing the basketball. The Rams are averaging 13.92 assists per game while scoring 72.9 points per night. The team uses a balanced scoring attack as five players are averaging over 10 points per game. Morgan Arden leads the offensive charge, scoring 12.8 points a night. Saturday's game will come less than 48 hours after the Rams played the Hilltoppers 350 miles away from Wise.
About UVa-WiseUVa-Wise posted its third road league win of the season Thursday night when the team posted a 71-58 win over West Virginia State. The three road MEC wins has already surpassed the two regular season road league wins the team posted in its inaugural MEC season. On Thursday, the team used a complete team effort to score the win. The Cavaliers turned the ball just four times while placing four players in double figure scoring.
Kayla Carey posted her second consecutive double-double in the win by scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The sophomore added a career-high five blocks while handing out four assists and finishing with two steals. The UVa-Wise bench was pivotal in the win as well as
Megan Smith and
Allison Ball combined to score 18 points as part of a 20-point bench scoring attack.
