Box Score INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Yellow Jackets had three players finish in double figures Thursday as West Virginia State University beat UVa-Wise 90-77 at the Walker Convocation Center.
Damion Harris led the Yellow Jackets (2-12, 2-3 MEC) with a team-high 21 points and game-high 12 rebounds, while Markee Mazyck added 20 points and nine rebounds and Dominic Phillips finished with 11 points and six rebounds. As a team, West Virginia State shot 47.1 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from behind the arc and 76 percent from the line. The Yellow Jackets used their superior size to out rebound the Cavaliers 49-34 in the victory.
Philip Owens II led the way for UVa-Wise (1-11, 0-7 MEC). He finished with a game-high 33 points, while Oliver Thompson added 18 points and six rebounds. Brian Sydnor finished a rebound shy of a double-double as he posted 11 points and nine rebounds.
UVa-Wise will return to action on Saturday against Shepherd University at the Prior Center.
