Wheeling Jesuit (5-3, 2-2 MEC) used a 10-2 run to open the contest as the visitors limited UVa-Wise to just one made bucket in its first 11 field goal attempts.
UVa-Wise (4-7, 3-2 MEC) responded with a 19-5 run to take a 21-15 lead with three minutes to play in the first half. During the stretch, the Cavaliers made a trio of 3-pointers, one each by Allison Ball, Blair Harding, and Katie Jo Dockery.
The run propelled UVa-Wise to a 23-19 halftime advantage as Wheeling Jesuit made just eight shots from the floor while making just one of five foul shots.
Coach Kristin Kunzman's squad would build its lead to 11 points at 44-33 mid-way through the second half before the Cardinals' big run.
UVa-Wise would make just one of its final 14 shots in suffering its third consecutive defeat. Wheeling Jesuit finished the second half 14-29 from the floor in the second half.
The Cardinals' Jaila Bryant led all players with 14 points in 25 minutes of play while teammate Kylie Frizell scored 13 points. Jaana Motton added a game-high 13 rebounds in the victory.
Harding turned in a double-double for UVa-Wise with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Kehanna Grayer scored a team-high 13 points and Dockery netted 10 points in defeat.
The Cavs will be back in action Monday at 5:30 when West Liberty University visits the Prior Center.
