WHEELING, W.Va. - - Wheeling Jesuit shot 60.9 percent from the field and made 12 3-pointers en route to a 105-82 victory over UVa-Wise in the opening round of the inaugural Mountain East Conference Tournament.
Wheeling Jesuit (15-12) had three players score 25 or more points led by a game-high 32 points from Justin Fritts. Fritts hit six of the Cardinals 12 3-pointers in the win while teammates Eric Seifert and Andre Harris each netted 25 points.
UVa-Wise (11-16) was led by Deon Boyce who scored 29 points in his final collegiate game. The Pittsburgh native also added eight boards to finish his season with a school record 399 rebounds this season. Charles George added 18 points and Javon Moore chipped in 13 for the Cavaliers.
The loss concludes UVa-Wise first season in the MEC while Wheeling Jesuit advances to the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
