Box Score WISE - - Eric Siefert scored 20 points and Kyle Ritz scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Wheeling Jesuit overcame a nine-point first half deficit in a 73-70 win over UVa-Wise on Thursday.
An 11-4 run by UVa-Wise (9-11, 6-10 MEC) mid-way through the game's first 20 minutes allowed the host to open an 18-10 advantage. The run was spearheaded by a pair of
Tyler Maggard 3-pointers.
Wheeling Jesuit (11-8, 9-7) rallied back and cut the deficit to one at intermission as Justin Fritts drained a 3-pointer from the right win before the horn sounded.
The lead would change hands 11 times over the first nine minutes of the second half before Fritts completed a 3-point play to give the Cardinals the lead for good.
Despite never again trailing, Wheeling Jesuit never led by more than five points for the remainder of the contest. The Cavaliers would have a chance to tie the game on the game's final play but a 3-point attempt by
Charles George was blocked by Ritz to seal the 73-70 win.
Maggard scored a team-high 15 points while
Deon Boyce and
Javon Moore each added 14 points in the loss.
