First Half Deficit Too Much to Overcome in loss at Notre Dame

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - - Notre Dame College jumped out to a 37-17 halftime lead and held off a late UVa-Wise rally to post a 65-55 Mountain East Conference victory on Monday. 

Notre Dame (11-7, 8-6 MEC) limited UVa-Wise to just 18.5 percent shooting in the first half while shooting 48.4 percent from the field in jumping out to the 20 point margin.

The Cavaliers (8-11, 4-11 MEC) got back in the game with 14 second half points from Reynesha Archer.  As a team, UVa-Wise made 43.3 percent of its shots in the half while also out-rebounding Notre Dame 22-13 in the final 20 minutes.

Coach Kristin Kunzman's club was able to cut the deficit to as few as six points in the final minute but could get no closer in the contest.

Archer finished with a game-high 23 points for the Cavs and Martha Nagbe posted a team-high 17 points for Notre Dame.

UVa-Wise will return home on Thursday to face Wheeling Jesuit University.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. from the Prior Center.
