Second Half Too Much to Overcome for Cavalier Men

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - - Host Notre Dame College opened the second half on a 15-0 run en route to an 80-65 Mountain East Conference win over UVa-Wise on Monday.  The win was the second consecutive for the Falcons who improve to 2-0 in MEC play.

Notre Dame (4-1, 2-0 MEC) opened the first half in similar fashion to how it started the second half as a 22-9 run mid-way through the half gave the hosts a 35-24 lead.

UVa-Wise (1-3, 0-2 MEC) would battle back to get within six at intermission as Oliver Thompson netted 12 first half points to keep the Cavaliers within striking distance.

Lawrence DeArmond, Tyree Gaiter, Oliver Megins, and Kyauta Taylor all would score in the Falcons' flurry to start the second 20 minutes.

The Falcons' had three players finish in double figures.  DeArmond finished with 29 points, Will Vorhees posted 15 points and Gaiter finished with 12 points . Gaiter added 11 assists while Vorhees grabbed eight boards.

Notre Dame out-rebounded UVa-Wise 47-40 and limited UVa-Wise to 35.5 percent shooting.

Four Cavaliers finished in double figures, led by Philip Owens II who posted 15 points. Charles George joined Thompson with 12 points while Aaron Meredith netted 10 points on 4-6 shooting.

UVa-Wise will return to play next Monday when the team visits King University.
