Box Score ETTRICK, Va. – After winning in double overtime on opening night, UVa-Wise fell in the second game of the season, one day later, to Virginia State University 92-56 in the Trojan Tip-Off Classic.
Virginia State (1-1) went on a 26-11 run within the first 10 minutes of the first half and never trailed en route to the big win over UVa-Wise (1-1). Lamar Kearse led the Trojans in the first half as he shot 5-of-5 from beyond the arc to end the half with 17. He finished the game with 24.
Charles George went 11-for-11 from the free throw line to lead the Cavaliers with 17 points. UVa-Wise struggled shooting in the loss as the team made just 25 percent of its shots from the field, 27.3 percent from behind the arc and 67.9 percent from the free throw line.
The Trojans finished the game shooting 53.8 percent from the floor and 45.8 percent from three point territory.
The Cavaliers will travel to Johnson City, Tennessee on Tuesday to take on East Tennessee State University in an exhibition contest at 7 pm.
