UVa-Wise Runs Past Wheeling Jesuit 84-72

WHEELING, W.Va. - - Deon Boyce and Javon Moore each scored 22 points and UVa-Wise made eight 3-pointers in an 84-72 Mountain East Conference victory over Wheeling Jesuit University at the McDonough Center on Sunday.   Boyce grabbed 10 boards to go along with his 22 points to record his fifth consecutive double-double and seventh of the season while Moore collected nine rebounds and finished with five steals in the road win.

UVa-Wise (6-3, 3-2 MEC) built a 45-31 halftime lead by connecting on seven made 3-pointers.  Wheeling Jesuit (5-3, 3-2 MEC) would fall behind by as many as 27 points with 11:30 to play in the contest before mounting a comeback.

The Cardinals would cut the deficit to as few as 11 points with 5:34 to go in the contest as Justin Fritts capped a 19-5 run.  Blake Mellinger's club responded and put the game away by scoring the next four points on a pair of free throws from Moore and a layup by James Turner.  Wheeling Jesuit would be unable to cut the lead to single digits over the remainder of the game as UVa-Wise led wire-to-wire in the victory.

Turner finished the game 7-8 from the field to score 17 points while also grabbing four boards and dishing out five assists.  Charles George rounded out the quartet of double-figure scorers for the Cavs as he scored 10 points and finished with four steals.
