Slow Start Dooms Cavs in Road Loss at W.Va. Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - - Host West Virginia Wesleyan built a 38-24 halftime lead and held off a late UVa-Wise surge to post a 74-63 win at the Rockefeller Center on Thursday. 

The victorious Bobcats (4-5, 1-2 MEC)  limited the Cavaliers (4-1, 2-1 MEC) to 8-24 shooting in the opening half while connecting on eight made 3-pointers to gain the 14 point advantage. 

UVa-Wise would cut the deficit to six late in the contest but could get no closer as the host connected on pivotal foul shots to close out the contest.  For the game, Wesleyan shot 79.1 percent from the charity stripe.  The Cavs shot 62.5 percent from the line while also being out-scored by 18 points from beyond the arc.

Ray Warren led the Bobcats with 14 points and 11 rebounds while teammate T.J. Thompson scored a team-high 16 points.  Brett Ervin, 13, and Chris Dewberry, 10 also scored in double figures in the win.

Javon Moore led all players with 20 points in the loss and Deon Boyce recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.  Matt Day added 15 points in the loss, with six of the points coming from the foul line.

UVa-Wise will return home on Saturday to host Glenville State College.  Tip-off is set for 4 pm and you can catch the action live on www.uvawisecavs.com/showcase
