Burchell Stallard Baseball Field

Burchell "Slew" Stallard Field has been the home of Highland Cavalier baseball for decades. It was opened to play on Feb. 20, 2004 and officially received the name a few weeks later.

The site of the field has been the home of baseball at the school pretty much since the school first fielded a team in 1955 and was known as Alumni Field. Major renovations were made to the field in late 2003 and at that time the decision was made to name the new field in honor of Burchell "Slew" Stallard, a local coach who had multiple championships in football and baseball at several regional high schools over a long career.

The first home game was originally set to be played on February 28, 2004 against Alice Lloyd College, but weather forced a change of a doubleheader scheduled at Bluefield College from there to Wise, so the first two games at the new UVA Wise field saw UVA Wise play as the visiting team.

The complex includes full dugouts, seating for 400 in three permanent areas behind home plate and along the base paths, and a press box. New to the field in 2024 are renovated pitching bullpens at the end of both dugouts. Ample parking is available around Greear Gym and atop the hill on the northeast end of the complex.

Lights were first added in 2008 and after the 2023 season the original Bluegrass surface was taken up and replaced by a Field Turf Triple Threat surface.
