Madelyn Lawrence led the volleyball team with 112 kills, averaging 2.29 per set, during the month of September. The middle blocker recorded a .291 hitting percentage and posted nine solo blocks and 18 assisted blocks. 

Lawrence guided the team to a 3-1 home opener win against Lees-McRae College, tallying 16 kills alongside a .433 hitting percentage and added two blocks in the win. The Harrisonburg, Virginia native followed that performance with an impressive 21 kills in a 3-2 victory against Glenville State College in the team’s conference opener on the road. Against the Pioneers, Lawrence registered a .385 hitting percentage and totaled five blocks in the win.
