Men’s basketball redshirt junior forward Taiwo Badmus has been named February Male Cavalier of the Month for his third-straight monthly honor.
Badmus, a native of London, England, was named to the All-MEC Second Team on Feb. 28 for his efforts during the regular season, scoring a total of 604 points and grabbing 281 rebounds. The redshirt junior had a tremendous February, averaging 22 points and 10.4 boards in eight games played, while shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from beyond the arc. Badmus scored in double figures in each contest and posted a double-double four different times. He had five different games scoring 20 or more points and one 30-point game.
Playing an average of 33.4 minutes per contest for the month, Badmus was also outstanding on the defensive end where he averaged 1.9 steals in the eight games. The 6-foot-7 forward was named MEC Co-Player of the Week for his second weekly recognition by the conference office this season on Feb. 13. The accolade came after Badmus helped the Cavs knock off then 18th-ranked Wheeling Jesuit University on Feb. 9 with a double-double of 20 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Most recently, Badmus scored a game-high 32 points on 11-for-13 shooting and tallied 11 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the year. His efforts willing UVa-Wise to a 100-92 home victory over Concord University on Feb. 25 in a must-win situation for the Cavs to make postseason play and clinch a spot in the MEC Tournament.
