For the second consecutive month men’s basketball redshirt junior forward Taiwo Badmus has been named Male Cavalier of the Month. Badmus, a native of London, England, averaged a double-double in the month of January with 21.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. The Fairmont State transfer shot 53.8 percent for the month and was 41.9 percent from beyond the arc in 10 games played. Playing an average of 32.4 minutes per contest, Badmus made 1.8 steals per game and collected 31 rebounds on the offensive glass.
On Jan. 19 Badmus had a career night at Concord University, scoring a career-high 42 points on a career-high 14 made field goals. The forward also went 6-of-10 from 3-point range in the game and knocked down eight of his 10 free-throw attempts, while grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. Badmus earned MEC Player of the Week honors on Jan. 23 for his efforts at Concord as he shot 70.7 percent from the field, including going 12-of-19 from deep, in three games during the week of Jan. 16-23.
Helping UVa-Wise to home wins against Shepherd University (78-69) and Charleston (82-68), and a road win at Concord (98-70), Badmus recorded a double-double in six of the 10 games played in January. Taiwo scored in double figures in all but one game in the month and had two 30-point games, including scoring a game-high 30 points in the win over Shepherd.
