Men’s basketball redshirt junior forward Taiwo Badmus has been named Male Cavalier of the Month for the month of December. Badmus, a Fairmont State University transfer and native of London, England, averaged 23 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for the month. Playing 31.7 minutes per contest, the redshirt junior shot 46 percent (23-of-50) from the field and hit 79.2 percent (19-of-24) of his free throws in three games played.
Badmus scored a near career-high 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a Mountain East Conference road loss at Glenville State College on Dec. 3, before tallying a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds in an 86-63 home non-conference win over Berea College (Ky.) on Dec. 8. The 6-foot-7 forward went 10-of-16 from the floor in the win over Berea and was 3-of-5 from deep.
Badmus also played well in two exhibition games against NCAA Division I opponents in the month of December, scoring 17 points, collecting seven rebounds and dishing out three assists at USC Upstate on Dec. 10. At Eastern Kentucky University on Dec. 28, Badmus had a near double-double of 16 points and nine rebounds. Including a total of three exhibition games at Division I opponents, Badmus scored in double figures in all six of UVa-Wise’s contests in December.
