Day, a native of Buckhorn, Kentucky (Buckhorn H.S.), has been named Men's Cavalier of the Year after having one of the best individual basketball seasons in school history. The forward averaged a double-double his senior year at 22.7 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per contest, recording a double-double in 16 different games. Scoring an impressive 658 total points in his final season, Day grabbed 307 rebounds and moved into sixth place on UVa-Wise’s all-time scoring list with 1,627 career points.

An All-Mountain East Conference Second Team selection, Day was named MEC Co-Player of the Week twice by the league office and scored in double figures in all but two games this past season. Nearly doubling his scoring average from his junior to senior seasons, Day finished the year by scoring in double figures his final 18 games. Ranking top-20 nationally in seven different scoring and rebounding categories, Day was top 10 in rebounds per game, double-doubles per game and defensive rebounds per game (8.86).

On Feb. 25, Day etched his named into the UVa-Wise and MEC record books when he scored a single-game record 49 points in a Cavs 102-89 home win over West Virginia State. In that contest, Day hit 24 of 27 free throws for both a MEC and school record in foul shot makes and attempts. Day was just one of five players in all of NCAA Division II to score 49 points or more in a single game, furthermore, his outing was the 13th-most points scored by a men's basketball player in all NCAA divisions (I, II, III) last year.
