Leila Maude Richmond won an enduring place in Highland Cavalier athletics at The University of Virginia's College at Wise, securing her place as the team's "Number One Fan." Known to grace the stands for her beloved Cavaliers in even the most inclement conditions, Richmond became one of the program's most significant contributors and one of the College's most import benefactors.

An outstanding early supporter of the football program from its inception, Richmond earned the affection of student-athletes and members of the College and community for her generosity and devotion. Her contributions included inspiring pep talks at football practices. These activities led to her induction in the Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999 for Outstanding Service and Support. Leila Maude Beaty-Richmond died on April 10, 2002. Her generous support of the College and the athletic program-particularly football-continued with the direction of funds to make possible the construction of the Ramseyer Press Box

The University of Virginia's College at Wise Board passed a resolution naming the football field at Carl Smith Stadium, Beaty-Richmond Field of May 17, 2002. The field was to be thus named in honor of Leila Richmond and her sister, Sarah Beaty. The college dedicated the field to the family during the 2002 football season.
